[Background Art] Background Creation

A lot of work goes into background creation, and is by far the thing that takes the longest to do.

Zuripai Sama first creates a really rough concept piece (not shown here) which is then used to create the 3D models. This is where most of the difficult details go in, like the photos, sticky notes and books. Stuff that will be annoying to draw by hand.

Once most of the modelling is done, cameras and lights are then setup. Based on the final camera position, additional modeling may take place to help fill in the scene with more detail.

When we're happy with it, high resolution line work and lighting passes are then rendered out.

The above process is all done using Maya.

With that done, Bukacain then takes those renders and layers them in Clip Studio to start coloring it in. Additional details are also drawn in to help tell more about who lives in this space. In this case, Bill. Adding the socks on the floor, crumpled paper around the bin and photos of things he has been taking with his camera.

The end result is a unique background we can then use.
