Update Log - June 2023

Hi all,

The first base polish of U2P1 is finally complete. If you're a patron of mine you can see the entire unrendered sequence in this post here. I should stress that this doesn't mean the animation is 100% complete, but the hardest task of animating from block-to-spline is done for.

For non-patrons, I plan on releasing the playblasted scenes of 5,6 & 7 on the public trello board sometime early July. The Scene 8 playblast will get released publicly at a later time.

Rewards next month

Since the base polish is done, I plan on making the rendered segments as rewards for the months following the completion of this project. For July, I plan on rendering out Scenes 1 and 2 (maybe more in a single month, if fluids/crashes won't be as painful as I imagine it's going to be). As time passes, these older rendered segments will get posted publicly on the trello board as usual.

What I've been doing now

VFX

Since the animation data is just about wrapped up, most of my time has been dedicated towards the VFX/post work. Currently, the top priority is baking out the fluid. Incase you care, here is a snippet of a simple fluid test.

I also plan on adding volumetrics/dust as Andre stomps about near the end of the segment. Volume sims and volume rendering are things that I don't have much experience in, so I imagine that this would be a good target to practice on.

RENDER / POST

I've also been doing some render tests to help create a proper post-prod setup. None of this is probably final, but it's an ok start.

Also, here's a GIF of the current post process:

Untitled 2: Part 2

This is still planned, but has not been started on aside from a basic storyboard to plan on. I want to focus my time on part 1 exclusively until it is officially complete. If this project was to continue, part 2 would be much shorter than part 1 as I want to focus on more smaller-based projects after this one. I also have additional future projects that include other characters that I'd really like to work on.

That's really all to show for now. Thanks for sticking with me. Glad to finally see some progress taking place after 3509423850 years.

Take care,
