Dear Patrons,

This month's update is coming at you on the very first day of the month! Although there's not so much to update with on the pitching front yet, I was just really excited to show some of the compositing I've been working on.

Apart from the very first shot (which has such a huge layout that I'm saving it for last), I've finished the initial compositing on the very first scene of the episode, and am nearing completion with two others. Now, that doesn't mean all the animation or clean-up is 100% done, but it was getting to a point where I thought it best to have an idea of the final treatment. Here's how the numbers are currently looking:

I've been testing out a bunch of different techniques, that go a bit further than what I'd initially intended - but I think it looks nice. It also means that I'm eventually going to have to go back to the scenes I'd previously composited and give them a similar treatment. But we'll leave that for final polish at the end. There are also some things that I still have to test out further. I added a grain effect to fix some banding issues. I ended up realizing that a lot of the issue was with the way I was exporting things, but I ended up liking the gain effect anyhow. I think it kind of works in adding some extra age and texture to things... but it also means that I've gotta be extra vigilant with how I export things, and test it out for web-upload underway!

Things change quite a bit when it's comped together. Here's a quick step-by-step example:

And how it looks in the workspace:

I'm looking forward to showing the scene with this shot in it soon as well!

Other than that, I've been hard at work with the project bible and polishing the sample scripts. As usual, I can't show you too much of that, but here's at least a blurry image:

And a happy Zale:

Hopefully I can bring you more news in the next update! Till then, have an awesome August!

- Sif
