He might not be blood related, and why he took him in initially was to ease his own guilt., But he's still Kyo's father in every other way. Besides Tohru, he genuinely cares for Kyo as a person, curse included. While forcing him to transform in the last episode might have seemed harsh, I understand the intentions. He sees the destructive path Kyo is heading down, not facing his problems but instead running from them. Like you noticed that Kyo does love him and respect him, he still pushes away, and I think part of that is because he doesn't love himself, and he still has a hard time reconciling that someone could actually genuinely care for him due to his upbringing with his mother and biological dad. That's why he thinks he's just a burden to him, and has trouble reconciling the fact.
