The Abney Park Musical

As I’ve teased before, there is an Abney Park musical in the works. I’ve been pretty secretive about it, for two reasons. One is that I don’t want any spoilers, and the other is there are a LOT of people there involved, and I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.

The musical is called (drum roll, please):

“Giants Of Iron and Steam”.

It’s set both in the far future, and in the Victorian era, but in the forests of Northern California! Though it’s not really part of the saga of our novels and roll playing games, it IS cannon, and at least one character from the novel series appears in it.

The musical will be a BIG production. It’s being funded by Sierra Energy, who had me tour the MASSIVE Victorian era warehouse that’s being converted into a theater for this production. The goal is to have Giants of Iron and Steam run forever, on the location the musical is set in, so the sets and settings are being permanently built!

And speaking of sets, Sierra Energy has hired a team of Disney Imagineers to design and build the sets! No kidding, I just had a zoom meeting with five Imagineers, where we all brainstormed the most phenomenal sets we could imagine. I might even be able to share some early set sketches with you soon!!

High point of the decade for me, I had an Imagineer say to me, “well, I don’t have to tell YOU about steampunk, since you created the movement!” I don’t always get remembered for this, but when I am, it’s always from the EXACT right people.

So yeah, picture an Abney Park musical, in a huge location setting, with a giant budget and set design by Imagineers!
