Finally finished it, here's my process for toning drawing paper. Let me know if you have any questions. In the video I'm using Strathmore 400 smooth but I've toned all kinds of paper this way. So just experiment with what you have on hand, the surface variations of drawing paper are countless.

When I say “seeing more abstractly” what I’m talking about is just simply looking at things differently, in a new way. You’re changing how you perceive information. It could be compared to the saying “thinking outside the box” somewhat. I think the most concrete aspect of this idea is to simply see objects as basic geometric shapes, the human figure works well with this concept.
