Last night singing

Just a heads up for you all, people don't usually talk well let alone sing on a ventilator. I've always loved singing, it's probably the most therapeutic activity I could do able-bodied or disabled, although I used to play guitar, piano, and cello.

When I was in the ICU, I couldn't talk at all because I was intubated so I communicated with the nurses buy mouthing words and using an alphab...

Shaving my p***y

Living with a bush is difficult when you rely on other people to clean and care for the whole area. We joke that one of these days we'll let it grow really long and then shave a landing strip or something.

Medical stuff: how I cough with a cough assist

I know it's disgusting but it's the only way to get the mucus out of the tracheostomy. It doesn't help that I've always had a lot of allergies and mucus ever since I was a kid. I guess they also say that if a normally healthy person goes on a ventilator they get an accumulation of mucus because they have an invasive hole in their throat. Makes sense!

Morning stretching

Morning stretching

Don't ask…
Just kidding, ask away:)

I was a yogi before my injury and my joints were/are hyper mobile. It's nice that I'm so flexible because it makes range of motion easy for my caregivers, and sometimes my joints will pop when stretched a certain way. Usually when we pull on my arms my right leg goes up in the air. I wanted to get a video of that but for some reason my leg didn't w...

I can't move on my own from my neck down.

I can't keep warm. Unless I'm in my room with the heater on full blast.

Right now I still live in Colorado. It gets so freezing and I spend every day stuck in my room unless I am going to physical therapy or some thing. Being stuck in a room can be nice, if you have a lover or if it's raining… but there isn't really a lot of rain in Colora...

Graphic picture: diaphragm pacer Open wound

Graphic picture: diaphragm pacer Open wound

Although the diaphragm pacer helps me to be able to breathe without the ventilator, it is technically an open wound and these tiny electrical wires are going into my body. Today, while changing and cleaning the pacer area, we were rather disturbed to find that one of the sites looks bruised and was bleeding a little. I can't feel very much pain in that area because I can hardly feel anything on...

Acupuncture video/Red light therapy/ cranial sacral massage

This part of acupuncture is focused on a spinal cord protocol which utilizes red light therapy and my own imagination to visualize spinal cord healing and movement.

I always imagine that I am at home in the Pacific Northwest, running along the beach barefoot with my dog.

That's where I wanna be

In this video, my excellent acupuncturist Yvonne explain why and how cupping works.

Getting in the massage chair is becoming much easier every time, although at the beginning I struggled with my breathing and was worried that my blood pressure would Drop and I would pass out in such an upright position. Thankfully, with the help of my care team I have gotten more comfortable with the whol...

In my shower chair

In my shower chair

This shower chair makes it possible for me to be cleaned properly every day, and in my opinion every quadriplegic should have access to this kind of accessible equipment. Many of us may not be able to afford something like this, which is surprisingly quite expensive and not covered by medicaid. Craig Hospital in Englewood Colorado helped me to acquire this one with the help of their foundation....

How we put on the ventilator at night

After dinner every night, I go back on the ventilator before my caregiver leaves for the evening. I don't get normal oxygen saturation so even though I can be on the diaphragm pacer during the day, I need good ventilation at night so that I get good sleep and my oxygen level stay normal.

It's really simple, we just turn on the ventilator and then turn off the diaphragm pacer and secure &n...

Trying to be normal

… and somewhat succeeding? I'm not gonna lie some days it is very difficult being disabled with such a high spinal cord injury. Although my injury did not affect my mental state, literally, it did actually do a lot of harm to my self-esteem and feelings of worthiness. I'm still getting used to this body and I feel so trapped in it at times. On the inside I am screaming and kickboxing and danc...

Those moments when you want to the able to move about in society as an invisible able-bodied creature that doesn't draw attention with a huge wheelchai...

How we clean my p***y

I'm still very sensitive in this area, so any kind of stimulation even during washing can cause me to spasm.
